Pakistanis were under some weirdo delusion that CPEC oil pipelines will help China get oil from Iran direct through Pakistan and circumvent any Naval blockade.

Pipeline (open to sabotage/enemy hits) through harsh mountainous landscape vs a supertanker docking at port.. dumb idea.
