UK has stopped the illegal influx largely via change of policy. Migration has been curtailed with the mere threat of immediate deportation and hounding you if yous illegal.

They’ve allowed illegal migration for free labor and to prop up the housing market. Nothing else makes sense.

How exactly is the housing market there being "propped up" by stuffing illegal migrant in those houses ?

The government pays the owners ?

Their labor needs had been well catered to decades ago by taking on a shite ton of us desi stock folk.. post independence/partition, many made a beeline to their then greener shores.

Abhi all the boat people from Africa are heading straight there because they promised freebies.

It's all very weird to me, why would anyone do that to their country ?

Without constant coludd migration it’s hard to prop up the real estate sector. Hillbillay don’t have kidz no more and with millennials in the market now, nobody getting married nor buying cars nor homes. It’s a new generation mentality quite different to the older one.

Coludd subcontinent ghareeb who believe in chutiyappa are encouraged to migrate and buy up junked out homes in the UK midlands and the Midwest of the US.
