Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday evening watched an English film at a cinema hall in the capital with his daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman.

He went to the Shimanto Shombhar cinema hall in Dhanmondi and watched the American science fiction film 'Project Hail Mary', said his Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon.

“The Prime Minister came to the cinema hall in the evening to watch the film. His daughter, Barrister Zaima Rahman, accompanied him,” Rumon said.

He said Tarique Rahman watched the film as part of leisure on a holiday.

The additional press secretary said the show began at 7:10pm and ended at around 10:10pm.

Project Hail Mary is currently being screened at Star Cineplex’s Shimanto Shombhar branch.

It is a 2026 American science fiction film produced and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and written by Drew Goddard, based on the 2021 novel by Andy Weir.

It stars Ryan Gosling (who also produced the film alongside Weir), Sandra Hüller, James Ortiz and Lionel Boyce.

The film follows the story of Ryland Grace, a man who wakes up on an interstellar spacecraft with no memory of how he got there.​

Today is the 53rd anniversary of the birth of film artiste Salman Shah, who won the hearts of film lovers across the country with his acting in films like ‘Keyamat Theke Keyamat’, ‘Sujan Sakhi’, ‘Swapner Thikana’ and ‘Ananda Ashru’.

Born on September 19, 1971, Shahriar Chowdhury Emon, popularly known by the stage name Salman Shah, made his silver screen debut in 1993 with Sohanur Rahman Sohan-directed film ‘Keyamat Theke Keyamat’.

Before making his silver screen debut, he acted in the first episode of the drama series named ‘Pathar Samay’. He also appeared as a model in television commercials.

During his four-year film career, the actor acted in 27 films including, ‘Satyer Mrityu Nei’, ‘Antare Antare’, ‘Swapner Thikana’, ‘Bikshob’ and ‘Prem Piyasi’.

Salman Shah’s lifeless body was found hanging from the ceiling of his bedroom on September 6, 1996.​

The acclaimed Bangladeshi film ‘1971 Shei Shob Din,’ directed by Hridi Huq, is scheduled to be screened at the Cinemark Pflugerville 20 and XD in Texas, USA, today.

Released on August 18, 2023, the film portrays the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, focusing on the lives and emotional struggles of two middle-class families.

At the special screening, director and actress Hridi Huq, producer Kamruzzaman Ronnie, and Austin premiere organiser Subir Roy will speak at the event held in Auditorium 16.

Subir Roy noted that not only the Bangladeshi community in Austin but also audiences from diverse cultural backgrounds have shown strong interest to experience the film.

Hridi Huq stated that from international festivals to audience screenings, the response to the film has been truly overwhelming, and she hopes the audience will enjoy it.

Presented by Ticket Productions, ‘1971 Shei Shob Din’ has been screened across multiple countries and has earned several international accolades. These include recognition from the Swedish International Film Festival, Kookai International Film Festival, London Bengali Film Festival, Lulea International Film Festival, Reels International Film Festival, Indian Independent Film Festival, The Choice International Film Festival, Bettiah International Film Festival, Nawada International Film Festival, Asian Talent International Film Festival, La Boheme Cinema Film Festival, and other global platforms and successful screenings in Australia, Europe, and major cities in the United States—including New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.​

Veteran actor Alamgir has received Lifetime Achievement Award at the Meril-Prothom Alo Awards 2025.

The award and a cheque for Tk 300,000 were handed over to Alamgir by Runa Laila.

Anjan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Square Toiletries, placed a celebratory scarf around his shoulders.

Matiur Rahman, editor of Prothom Alo, was also present on stage.

Popular Bangladeshi actress and model Bidya Sinha Saha Mim has been announced as the official brand ambassador of Chuti Resort. The announcement was made on 23 April 2026 through a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony held at Chuti Resort in Purbachal, reports a press release.

The event was presided over by Advocate Mostofa Mahmud Arifee, chairman and co-founder of Chuti Group. Attendees included co-founder and managing director of Chuti Resort Purbachal Almgir Ferdous, managing director of Chuti Resort Pubail and Chuti Forest Eagle Resort Md Samsul Islam Masud, and managing director of Chuti Beach Resort, Saltanat Tea Resort, and Saltanat Highway Village Mostafa Kamal.
