On the banner of the anti-discrimination student movement, the agitators took a position in and around Shahbagh intersection of the capital with a procession as part of the "Bangla Blockade" program for the fourth day today. The entire Shahbagh area has become agitated with procession and slogans.
As a result, the traffic from Shahbagh to Elephant Road, Bangla Motor Road, Matsya Bhavan Road and TSC Road is completely closed.
On Thursday (July 11) around 5 pm, the protesters took a procession from the Dhaka University campus to Shahbagh and broke the police barricade.
Policemen were already there. However, the students crossed the Shahbag intersection bypassing the police barricade.
Till the last news, a part of the agitators are chanting slogans at Shahbag intersection and another at Hotel Intercontinental intersection.
Incidentally, the anti-discrimination student movement is holding a continuous blockade program demanding the cancellation of the quota system in government jobs and the reinstatement of the 2018 circular. The program called "Bangla Blockade" started from last July 7. After the first two days of half-day blockade, the morning-evening blockade program continued on Wednesday with a one-day break on Tuesday. They announced to hold the "Bangla Blockade" program from 3:30 pm on Thursday.
Earlier, in a press conference on Wednesday morning, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) mentioned that the citizens of the capital are being put to extreme suffering in the name of quota reform movement.
The police allowed the movement from a place of professionalism. However, he also warned that action will be taken according to law if the road is blocked in the name of new movement.
