Kochi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said today that the media should avoid the desire to be sensational though it is very tempting some times. Speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of Kerala Union of Working Journalists in Kochi he said the recent violence in Assam and its reverberations in other parts have brought out "worrying faultlines" which implies social peace and harmony cannot be taken for granted.

Observing that the media has a very important role to play in the task, he said its reporting and opinions should be fair, objective and balanced.

"Restraint should be exercised so that nothing that divides our society and country is written, broadcast or telecast", he said, adding conscious efforts should be made to build bridges between communities and religions.

Singh said the tragic developments in Assam and their reverberations in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and other places (which saw exodus of north-easterners over safety fears) have shown that "We cannot afford to take social peace and harmony for granted".

He emphasised the need to be constantly vigilant and work continuously towards promoting greater communal harmony and inter-group and inter-community dialogue.

Clearly Mr. Singh's advice was not just ignored, but treated as counter productive, and the media has since doubled down on the exact opposite.

Goswami was ok till he was grilling corrupt a$$holes. Then he started imagining himself as some kind of media god and it all went south. Others had to copy him to survive. What a mess it is. There is not a single mainstream channel you can watch with peace.

He does have some redeeming qualities, but too often is a OTT cvnt, a ratings whore

I don't follow any journalist. I read two newspapers every morning - TOI and Deccan Herald. Print copies.

During the day I randomly read articles on many news sites.

hmm, gooble says centre left and centre right bias hai unka

I haven't read print in YEARS
I never ditched print. Print gives me aloo pyaaz type khabrein that videos will never give. It keeps me connected to the immediate world I live in. I like to know in which small town who got her husband murdered by her lover, and which local politician made some cheap remark etc etc.

People still call it Bombay.
When I lived there it was still called Bombay. I spent some of my best days there, and that name is an indelible part of my memory. That's how I remember it. However, over time I have gotten used to using Mumbai too, as most colleagues in an office set up use that name. I use both, depending on what comes on the tongue first. In personal situations, nostalgia, it will always be Bombay. In transactional situations it is Mumbai

Many cities have symbols.

Examples:

* Paris has Eiffel Tower.

* New York has Statue of Liberty.

* Agra has Taj Mahal.

What could be Mumbai's / Bombay's symbol?

Chalo bhot mystery hui @Bagheera0084

ab bata bhi do what you had in mind as Bombay's most iconic landmark..

Wankhede stadium, where Dhoni hit a six to win us the cup all those years ago (damn, how time flies, eh? :( )
Firstly, the question wasn't some mystery/suspense. Meri bahut si baatein faaltu hoti hai.

What I had in mind is this:

Aerial / bird's eye view of Marine Drive.
