Chinese naval fleet begins goodwill visit to Bangladesh

Chinese naval fleet Qi Jiguang and Jing Gangshan arrived at Chattogram Port today on a goodwill visit, which marks significant importance for deepening China-Bangladesh friendship and cooperation.

During the fleet's four-day goodwill visit, a series of events will take place, including bilateral meetings, ship open days, and deck reception, to enhance China and Bangladesh Navy cooperation and mutual trust, and contribute to the building of a maritime community of shared future, says a statement of the Chinese embassy.

"This visit marks the first occasion in four years since Chinese naval fleet last visited Bangladesh, and it is the first foreign naval fleet to visit since the establishment of Bangladesh interim government."

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen welcomed the Chinese training fleet at the port. Diplomats from the Chinese embassy, representatives from enterprises and Confucius Institute attended the welcoming ceremony.

Later, Yao Wen and commanders of the Chinese naval fleet called on Rear Admiral Masud Iqbal, commander of the Chattogram Naval Area; Rear Admiral Md Moinul Hassan, Commander of the Bangladesh Navy Fleet, and Rear Admiral S M Moniruzzaman, Chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority.

In a statement, Chinese embassy said, "China and Bangladesh are traditionally friendly neighbours and comprehensive strategic cooperative partners. No matter what changes have taken place in the domestic situation of Bangladesh, China's commitment to develop China-Bangladesh relations remains unchanged."

Beijing looks forward to working closely with Dhaka to cement the traditional friendship, deepen friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation, he said.

Yao Wen said China is also eager to promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and further advance the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new height.

The two sides had in-depth exchanges of views on China-Bangladesh friendship and cooperation.

"Both parties conveyed their strong confidence in the development of China-Bangladesh relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening defense and security cooperation."​

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen on Saturday said that China’s commitment to develop Dhaka-Beijing relations remains unchanged no matter what changes have taken place in the domestic situation of Bangladesh.

“China is looking forward to working closely with Bangladesh to cement our traditional friendship, deepen friendly exchanges and mutually-beneficial cooperation in various areas,” he said, according to a press release issued by the Chinese embassy in Dhaka.

The envoy made remarks while he along with visiting Chinese naval fleet Qi Jiguang and Jing Gangshan commanders called on Chattogram Naval Area Commander Rear Admiral Masud Iqbal, Bangladesh Navy Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Md Moinul Hassan, and Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral S M Moniruzzaman in Chattogram.

During the meeting, the envoy emphasised promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation as well as on further advancing the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries to a new height.

Earlier, the Chinese ambassador welcomed the Chinese naval fleet Qi Jiguang and Jing Gangshan when they arrived at the Chittagong Port on a goodwill visit to Bangladesh.

Diplomats from the Chinese Embassy, representatives from enterprises and Confucius Institute, and overseas Chinese, attended the welcoming ceremony.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, the Chinese PLANTask Group 83 berthed at Chittagong Port.

Chinese waved the national flags of China and Bangladesh with great enthusiasm, extended high tribute to Chinese Navy, and wished for a long-lived China-Bangladesh friendship.

Bangladesh Navy to procure Ocean-going tug from India

Bangladesh Navy has signed a contract for a 'Made in India' 800-ton-Ocean Going Tug with India's Garden Reach Shipbuilding and Engineers.

The signing, held on Sunday, coincides with the visit of India's Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi to Bangladesh, as per UNB reports.

A new milestone in India's defence Line of Credit to Bangladesh said the Indian High Commission in Dhaka in a message through its verified social media handle.

Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi will pay a four-day official visit from July 1-4, aiming to consolidate bilateral defence relations between Bangladesh and India and to explore new avenues for Naval cooperation.

The visit of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Indian Navy will further "strengthen the strong bonds of friendship" between the navies of both countries, said the Indian Ministry of Defence on Sunday.

The CNS is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with his counterpart Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, Chief of the Naval Staff, Bangladesh Navy in Dhaka, as also review the passing out parade scheduled at Bangladesh Naval Academy (BNA) at Chattogram on July 4.

During the visit, the CNS would also hold bilateral discussions with General Waker-Uz-Zaman (Chief of the Army Staff, Bangladesh Army), Air Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan (Chief of the Air Staff, Bangladesh Air Force), Lt Gen Mizanur Rahman Shameem (Principal Staff Officer, Armed Forces Division) and senior leadership of the Bangladesh Government.​


The CNS would also address participants at the National Defence College, Dhaka and visit a few key defence facilities.

Naval cooperation between India and Bangladesh has been traditionally strong, encompassing a wide span, which includes operational interactions through port calls, and bilateral naval exercises, along with capacity building, capability enhancement and training initiatives.​

I hope this contract was cancelled as it was signed right before Hasina's ouster. Just pure corruption-ridden contract.

This contract cannot be terminated as the money for procuring the tug boat has already been payed.:cry:
