Three Naval diving boats were added to SWADS inventory, all were handed over from local Naval builder KSY. Reportedly design was completed locally, compliant with RINA (Italian) marine classification society specifications.

Keel was laid at KSY sometime ago.

বাংলাদেশ নৌবাহিনীর জন্য তিনটি ডাইভিং বোট (ডুবুরিদের সহায়তাকারী জাহাজ) নির্মাণ করছে খুলনা শিপইয়ার্ড। বৃহস্পতিবার এর নির্মাণকাজের উদ্বোধন (কিল লেয়িং) করেন খুলনা নেভাল এরিয়ার কমান্ডার রিয়ার অ্যাডমিরাল আশরাফুল হক চৌধুরী।
জাহাজ তিনটি দিয়ে ডুবুরিদের অপারেশন্স এবং প্রশিক্ষণে সহায়তা করা ছাড়াও ডাইভিং ট্রিটমেন্ট ইত্যাদি নানাবিধ কার্যক্রমসহ নৌবাহিনীর সার্বিক অপারেশনাল কাজে সহযোগিতা করা হবে। জাহাজ তিনটির দৈর্ঘ্য ৩৮ দশমিক ৯ মিটার, প্রস্থ ৯০ মিটার, গভীরতা ২ দশমিক ২ মিটার। এর সর্বোচ্চ গতি ১৫ নটিক্যাল মাইল। আগামী দুই বছরের মধ্যে এর নির্মাণকাজ শেষ হবে।
উদ্বোধন অনুষ্ঠানে ফ্লোটিলা ওয়েস্টের কমান্ডার কমডোর আবদুল্লাহ আল মামুন চৌধুরী ও খুলনা শিপইয়ার্ডের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক কমডোর এম জাকিরুল ইসলাম উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
অনুষ্ঠানে জানানো হয়, প্রায় ৬২ বছর আগে যাত্রা শুরু করে খুলনা শিপইয়ার্ড লিমিটেড। ১৯৯৯ সালের ৩ অক্টোবর অলাভজনক প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে শিপইয়ার্ডকে বাংলাদেশ নৌবাহিনীর কাছে হস্তান্তর করা হয়। বর্তমানে খুলনা শিপইয়ার্ড শুধু লাভজনক প্রতিষ্ঠানই নয়, দেশের জন্য গৌরব বয়ে আনতে অনন্য ভূমিকা পালন করছে। এরই মধ্যে দেশের মাটিতে পাঁচটি ছোট যুদ্ধজাহাজ (প্যাট্রল ক্রাফট) ও দুটি বড় যুদ্ধজাহাজ (লার্জ প্যাট্রল ক্রাফট) নির্মাণ করে নৌবাহিনীকে হস্তান্তর করেছে। এ ছাড়া ৭৩০টি জাহাজ নির্মাণ ও দুই হাজার ৩৮৩টি জাহাজ মেরামত করেছে। খুলনা শিপইয়ার্ডে নৌবাহিনীর জন্য আরও পাঁচটি প্যাট্রল ক্রাফট নির্মাণের কাজ চলছে।

KHULNA, June 26, 2025 (BSS) - In a significant stride towards strengthening the Bangladesh Navy's three-dimensional capabilities, Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hassan officially commissioned three newly built indigenous diving boats Pankouri, Gangchil and Machranga at the Khulna Naval Berth today.

The commissioning ceremony, held with full naval tradition, saw the Navy Chief handing over command orders to the respective commanding officers and unveiling the nameplates of the vessels.

Speaking at the event, Admiral Nazmul Hassan underscored the crucial role of a robust navy in safeguarding national sovereignty, fostering economic growth and responding to evolving geopolitical challenges.

He highlighted the Navy's vital contributions to securing Bangladesh's vast maritime domain, both in times of peace and conflict, particularly in conducting rescue and relief operations.

Reflecting on the Navy's humble beginnings following the country's independence in 1971, the Admiral expressed pride in its transformation into a modern, technologically advanced, three-dimensional force.

He noted the Navy's expanding responsibilities, especially in securing maritime sovereignty and supporting the country's Blue Economy initiatives.

He also emphasized the Navy's growing presence on the international stage, contributing to Bangladesh's global image.

"I am proud to witness the commissioning of three diving boats built entirely with local technology at Khulna Shipyard," said Admiral Hassan. "This achievement highlights our self-reliance and capacity in naval construction."

The keel-laying of the three vessels took place on June 10, 2021, at Khulna Shipyard. Following successful construction and sea trials, the boats were officially handed over to the Navy on May 6, 2025.

Each of the newly commissioned diving boats is 38.90 meters in length and 9 meters in width, with a top speed of 15 nautical miles per hour.

They are equipped with state-of-the-art diving support systems, advanced sensors and navigation equipment including modern surveillance radar, GPS, echo-sounders, and sophisticated control systems. For defense, each vessel is armed with a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun.

Designed to support a variety of missions, these vessels will enhance the Navy's operational capabilities in maritime security, underwater diving and salvage operations, rescue missions, disaster response and maritime law enforcement.

Rear Admiral Golam Sadek, Commander of Khulna Naval Area, along with senior military and civilian officials, freedom fighters, ship officers and sailors attended the ceremony.
