Murder case filed against Hasina, Quader in Kishoreganj

A murder case has been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, and several other leaders in Kishoreganj over the killing of two BNP activists during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on August 4.

The case was filed following the complaint lodged by BNP activist Matiur Rahman today with Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station, naming 88 people, said Md Golam Mostafa, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Four former MPs Rezwan Ahmed Taufiq, Afzal Hossain, Sohrab Uddin and Noor Mohammad are among the accused.

Besides, 200-300 unknown individuals have been accused in the case, said the OC.

According to the case statement, on August 4, a procession of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and BNP leaders and activists was attacked in front of the District Awami League office.

AL leaders and activists attacked the participants of the procession with firearms, batons and sharp weapons.

During the attack, some BNP leaders and workers ran to save their lives and took shelter in the residence of District AL Assistant General Secretary Syed Ashfaqul Islam Titu in nearby Khormaptri area.

Later, AL activists confined them and set them on fire, killing two BNP activists Zulkar Hossain, 38, and Anjana, 28.

Apart from this, many others were injured due to bullets, sharp weapons and batons, said the statement.​

At least four more cases, including three for murders, were filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her aides on Thursday and Friday.

Hasina, also the Awami League president, is now facing 86 cases filed after the fall of her government on August 5 in a mass uprising led by students.

She has been named in 71 murder cases, eight cases on genocide and crimes against humanity charges, one case for shooting at students and public, two abduction cases, one case for arson attack, one case for attempted murder, one case of attacking the motorcade of Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia, and one for arresting 17 Bangladesh Nationalist Party activists foiling the party’s rally in Chattogram.

A case was filed against 313 people on Friday with the Munshiganj Sadar police station in the district, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her aides in connection with the killing of one Dipjol Sardar in violence during the movement of the Student Movement Against Discrimination on August 4, New Age correspondent in Munshiganj reported.

The victim’s grandmother Shefali Begum filed the murder case as the plaintiff with the police station in the morning, Munshiganj Sadar police station officer-in-charge Aminul Islam confirmed the matter.

The other accused are former Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader, also Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, ex-lawmaker of Munshiganj Mohammad Faisal Biplab, AL Munshiganj district unit president Md Mohiuddin, its general secretary Lutfor Rahman, former lawmakers Sagufta Yasmin Emily, lawyer Mrinal Kanti Das and former Sadar upazila chairman Anisuzzaman.

Besides, the other accused in the case also included 200-300 more unidentified people, including leaders and activists of the upazila Awami League and other organisations.

According to the case statement, on August 4, 2024, Dipjol was killed in the supermarket area in the district town, by AL-backed student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League Munshiganj municipality unit general secretary Sajjad Hossain Sagar.

Another murder was filed against Hasina, former minister Obaidul Quader, and several other Awami League leaders in Kishoreganj on Friday over the killing of two BNP activists during the movement of the Student Movement Against Discrimination platform on August 4, United News of Bangladesh reported.

The case was filed by BNP activist Matiur Rahman on Friday with the Sadar Police Station, naming 88 people, including four former lawmakers Rezwan Ahmed Taufiq, Afzal Hossain, Sohrab Uddin and Noor Mohammad.

Besides, 200-300 unknown individuals have been made accused in the case.

Kishoreganj Sadar model police station officer-in-charge Md Golam Mostafa shared the details of the case.

According to the case statement, a procession of students and BNP leaders and activists was attacked in front of the district AL office.

At one point, AL activists confined them and set them on fire, killing two BNP activists Zulkar Hossain, 38, and Anjana, 28.

Another case was filed against Hasina and 34 others with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka on Thursday for killing Bangladesh National Road Transport Workers Party Dhaka south city unit leader Hasan Mahmud in front of Goran Chhapra Masjid on July 31.

The victim’s wife Fatema filed the case with the court.

The court asked the Khilgaon police station to record the case, Khilgaon police station officer-in-charge Md Daud Hossain said.

‘We have received the court’s order at about 2:00pm on Friday and the process was underway to record the case,’ the OC Daud told New Age.

The other accused in the case included Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s private industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman, former jute and textile minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, former Dhaka Metropolitan Police detective branch chief Harun-Or-Rashid and DMP joint commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarkar.

A criminal case was also filed with a Chattogram court against ousted prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Sajib Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed along with 425 others on Thursday in the port city.

Mamun Ali, a businessperson filed the case with the Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Thursday afternoon.

Mamun said that he was celebrating the birthday of Khaleda Zia on august 15, 2016, while the then officer-in-charge of Halishahar thana stopped the programme and arrested him along with 17 other BNP activists.

Later, the OC demanded Tk 10 lakh to release them all.

But when the case was transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation, a group of lawyers protested at it.

Later, the court ordered the Halishahar police station to record the case as a first information report and investigate.

AM Humayun Kabir, deputy commissioner of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police confirmed the news.

He said that additional forces were deployed at court yard due to demonstrations.

Halishahr police station officer-in-charge Kaisar Hamid said that they were yet to receive a copy of the order.​

Three separate cases have been filed against 83 people including former foreign minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, his daughter Nafisa Zumaina Mahmud, and brother Ershad Mahmud in Chattogram.

In these cases, 42 other unidentified people have been accused.

Of the cases, Dr Hasan Mahmud was made the prime accused in two cases while his daughter was made the prime accused in another case, as per UNB reports.

Three locals of Rangunia filed these cases with Chattogram Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Wednesday, magistrate's clerk Zainal Abedin said.

One of the cases was filed following a complaint lodged by Harun Rashid Prakash of Rangunia where Hasan Mahmud's daughter Nafisa Zumaina Mahmud, 9 named people, and 30 unknown people were accused.

According to the case statement, the accused grabbed land from the plaintiff through intimidation.

In another case filed by Md Osman, a resident of Chandraghona area of Rangunia, 32 people including Dr. Hasan Mahmud were named as accused.

Besides, 12 unnamed individuals were accused in the case.

In the case, the defendants were accused of extortion. The court ordered Rangunia police station to investigate the case.

A person named Kamal Uddin, a resident of Rangunia, was the plaintiff in another case.

A total of 42 persons including Hasan Mahmud were named as accused in the case where his brother Ershad Mahmud was named as the second prime accused.

The accused were charged with assaulting the plaintiff causing grievous injuries.

Dr Moin Uddin Ahmad, a lawyer of one of the plaintiffs, said that the victim could not file any case earlier against the accused due to their wealth and power.

"Hopefully, the plaintiff will now get justice as a better environment is prevailing in the country," he added.​

Nowfel among 512 sued over vandalising, looting Ctg BNP office

Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel, former education minister, and former Chattogram City corporation mayor AJM Nasir Uddin among 512 others have been sued over vandalising and looting the city's BNP party office on August 4.

Former MP for Chattogram-10 constituency Mohiuddin Bacchu is also among the accused.

Azahar Uddin Rocky, joint secretary of Enayet Bazar Ward Swechasebak Dal, filed the case today naming 162 individuals, including Nowfel and others, and 300 to 350 unnamed persons for attacking, looting, and vandalising the BNP's Kazir Dewri Nasiman Bhaban Party office.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station SM Obaidul Haque confirmed the case.

In the case statement, former ward councillors and leaders from AL, Jubo League and BCL, equipped with firearms, gathered in the Kazir Dewri area on August 4 during the mass uprising of students and people against the Hasina-led government.

Following the orders of Nowfel and others, the armed men opened fire and detonated crude bombs in front of the party office, creating panic. At one point, they vandalised and looted valuables from the party office worth Tk 5,00,000, added the case statement.​
